My Hunt With NTO

My Hunt With NTOOr, should I say hunts – plural. I must say, when I originally signed up to hunt with NTO, I was just checking off one of my bucket list hunts, but now that I have actually hunted with Non-Typical Outfitters, I can’t wait to do it again. My opinion is that Robb Wiley, co-owner of NTO, has surrounded himself with some great guys and that also includes Robert, the cook.

I arrived at camp the day before (more…)

A Bucket List Elk Hunt for Dennis

Bucket List HuntI wanted to share my experience at fulfilling one of my bucket list items, a wilderness hunt on horseback and the opportunity to hunt with Non-Typical Outfitters. Robb Wiley, who helped me book this hunt recommended a solo hunt, just me and a guide. His strong encouragement was 100% spot on and the additional cost, although a burden, was worth every penny. I always had other priorities, like expenses that were more important at the time, but recently I figured, finally (more…)

Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt of 2017

Hunting for bulls in western WyomingOur 2017 Elk season was filled with super successes, as well as super challenges. Our high success rate continued for most of our elk hunts this year. We did, however, have a couple of hunts where the hunting was some of the most difficult we’ve had. During those hunts we experienced a low harvest rate. We killed some of the best bulls we have ever taken out of western Wyoming this year. We harvested a solid number of bulls over 300 inches and many just good old, solid 6 point bulls. (more…)

Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt of 2016

Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt 2016Our 2016 Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt was one of our best to date. We had a very high harvest rate on most hunts. We had the ability to show most of our hunters many, many bulls. Some of the bulls were as big as they get for western Wyoming. Even the hunts where we did not punch everyone’s tag were still very successful. Some hunters passed 6 point bulls because they were seeing bigger ones. We had opportunities on and killed several bulls over 300 inches. (more…)

Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt of 2015

Bull Elk Hunt of 2015Our 2015 Bull Elk season was extremely challenging. The weather was a double edged sword. We started the season with record rainfall in the spring and early summer which added to the spectacular horn growth. We had multiple Bulls over 340, as well as many over 300 inches located in our preseason scouting. Many of our early mule deer hunters commented, “Wow, I need to get an Elk tag for this area!” This was due, of course, to how many spectacular bulls they were seeing. (more…)

Brenda’s Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt 2014

Brenda Wiley Trophy Elk Hunt

Brenda and I have not had the chance to hunt together since starting a family 6 years ago. After hearing the news that Brenda was ready to come out of “hunting retirement”, I did not book any clients for the last week of October, 2014, so that we could test drive a hunt that we are going to be offering beginning 2015. Check out Brenda’s 2014 bull!

Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt of 2014

2014 Elk SeasonOur 2014 elk season was arguably the best elk year we’ve had to date. Although mother nature did not cooperate with the weather, we were still able to harvest a tremendous lineup of bulls. Our continued high bull-to-cow ratio is proving to be a great asset to our hunts. We have some of the best general season hunting in Wyoming currently.

Our archery hunt was “off the chart” successful (more…)

Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt of 2013

Wyoming Elk 2013The 2013 elk season for Non-Typical Outfitters produced some tremendous high mountain Wyoming elk hunting opportunities. We harvested some great public land bulls. Our high bull to cow ratio provided everyone with multiple bull opportunities, some hunters had chances at over 20 bulls on their hunt. Everyone may not have seen the big old bull in range, but got to see a lot of elk regardless of the week. (more…)

Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt of 2010

Elk Hunt 2010The Western Wyoming Elk Hunt of 2010 was a year that we had lots of bull elk found in the 280 to 320 class with a handful of bulls considerably larger. The early season was plagued with record breaking warm temperatures that greatly added to the challenge of the hunt. We were still able to take some quality animals and have lots of fun. We worked very hard for every opportunity. (more…)

Rocky Mountain Elk Hunt of 2009

Elk Hunt 2009The 2009 season was one of our best Rocky Mountain elk seasons as far as the quality of bulls harvested and opportunities given at bulls between 280 and 320. Our resident herd of elk is holding strong with a consistently high bull to cow ratio. We still have no wolves to threaten the herds. We are looking forward to an even better season in 2010. Please enjoy these photos from our Non-Typical Elk Hunt season of 2009. (more…)
