Wilderness touches the heart, mind and soul of each individual in a way known only to himself.
Our Elk camps were full for the 2022 season with new and return clients/friends. We had hunts that were 100 percent shots fired and tags punched and all of our hunts had a super high success rate. We are filled with gratitude for the ability to share our camps with, again, such incredible people this season. Thank You Very Much! We were blessed with many once in a lifetime memories. Some incredible hunt stories emerged. We again took several Bulls over 300 inches, our best bull was in the 320’s. Like always, we had to fight for our success, but we never give up!
Here is an honest assessment of our amazing western Wyoming elk herd. Overall elk numbers remain strong with good bull to cow ratios, but we are seeing a lower number of bulls of that older age class (bulls over 300 inch) due to the recent uptick in hunting pressure. It’s our opinion that resident and non resident pressure is at an all time high in western Wyoming in key hunting areas. These hunts still provide a world class opportunity, but having the right expectations going into the hunt will set the stage for overall success.
Change in the management of Non-Resident Elk hunters is on the horizon. The Wyoming Game and Fish is proposing Non-Resident Elk Regions. They are taking comments on this proposed change now. I support this change. We need to be doing something NEW to manage and steward this great Wyoming resource. Our herd is showing signs that change is needed to effectively manage the increased hunting pressure.
