Wilderness touches the heart, mind and soul of each individual in a way known only to himself.
What is Kairos?
Kairos is a greek word meaning “a time when conditions are right for the accomplishment of a crucial action”. We chose to call this event Kairos because we believe the conditions are right for the hearts of men to be ignited. We want to provide a space for men to come and learn how to be deadly shots, while also reconnecting with their hearts and the heart of God.
Our goal over the course of the three day class is for men to come up and have a blast doing long range shooting in some amazing country, to provide a space for men to build connection with other men, and for them to leave with some amazing emotional and spiritual tools to implement in their daily lives.
About the Shooting
This three day instructional session on practical aspects of shooting in the mountains is set in the epic, mountainous landscape of western Wyoming and all accommodations are included. Accommodations are a modern tent camp with a shower and a generator for lighting and recharging batteries. Horses are used for access to the high country shooting areas. Practical field positions will be taught while shooting steel targets at various ranges from up close, off hand shots, to ranges out to 1280 yards. They cover moving targets, adjusting for wind, adjusting for shooting angle, advanced ballistics, terminal ballistics, how to manage your gear on the mountain and how to turn what gear you already have with you into a solid rest for 3/4 minute accuracy, among other things. During this shooting class Robb will be using his own rifle along with you to demonstrate these techniques.
Focus will also be on making these types of shots happen quickly. When that giant, once in a lifetime trophy presents that one shot, speed may be essential. Whether you are hunting the high mountains, the high desert, or the low country, you will be able to take the skills that you develop in this class to become a better and more successful hunter.
For people that are new to shooting and/or hunting we want to make sure that you know that this class is set up in a way that people from all walks of life can enjoy it and benefit from it. If you have never shot a gun in your life we want to reassure you that this class is a perfect fit for you just as much as it is for someone who has shot their entire life.
About the Ministry
This three day course brings a unique dynamic to those attending, unlike any other, by combining shooting with the Presence and Love of God. Todd Pierce from Riding High Ministries, and his son Colton Pierce will be working alongside the Non-Typical Outfitters' team for the duration of the course. With their partnership an authentic, raw, and loving atmosphere will be brought to this class. Todd and Colton will be leading group session devotionals in the mornings, teachings in the evenings, and open conversations throughout the day. Our goal is to combine this epic shooting class that Non-Typical Outfitters has to offer with the tremendous love of God. We truly believe that this event will be one of a kind.
The Kairos Event will take place August 12-14, 2021. You can arrive the evening of August 11th and join us for dinner. The event will take place at Non-Typical Outfitters' Big Park Camp located in the mountains above Cokeville, WY. Accommodations are wall tents with wood floors and a wood stove for heat. Cots, pads and pillows are provided. You will need to bring a sleeping bag with you. All meals are provided during the event. The event will end at about 5PM on August 14th. Accommodations will not be provided the night of August 14th.
If you are flying, there are two main choices for airports to fly into. Salt Lake City, UT airport is about 150 miles from Cokeville, WY (the closest town to the camp where the event will take place). Jackson, WY airport is about 125 miles from Cokeville. You could also fly into Pocatello, ID (120 miles) or Idaho Falls, ID (150 miles). From Cokeville to Big Park Camp is about an hour drive on gravel roads. Please note that Google Maps and other navigation may not be able to locate Big Park Camp accurately. We will be sending a map for you and we can also drop you a "pin" so that you will be sure to find the correct location.
We highly recommend bringing your own rifle if you have one. There is a huge benefit to practicing with your own weapon. The muscle memory you develop as you practice will be most effective if you create it with the weapon you will be using normally. Also, as a team we will help you set up and verify that your gun is performing at its best. We may have a few rifles available that you could use, but we ask that if you have a rifle of your own (or have access to one) please bring it. We would like to save any loaner rifles for people who have no other option.
Camping in the wilderness is an experience that we truly believe everyone should have. Spending an extended period of time in God's natural creation has a positive effect on people from all walks of life. If you have never camped before, this is a great opportunity! The accommodations are very comfortable, by wilderness standards, and we would love the opportunity to help you enjoy His great handiwork in a tangible way.
The shooting class portion of the event can be tailored to any skill level. We have taught people that have never touched a gun as well as upper level shooters that have had extensive previous training. Everyone can benefit from this class in various ways. Each participant will be grouped with others of a similar skill level for the class.
We recommend that participants be 15 years of age or older. Though we have taught shooters as young as 10 in our shooting classes, we want to be sure that the men at this event feel free to discuss anything that may be on their hearts. Some of the discussions that may organically ensue may be inappropriate for younger children. If you are considering bringing your son to this men's event, we want to encourage you, but ask that all participants be 15 years of age or more.
Though this event is sponsored by Riding High Ministries, there is no requirement that you be a Christian in order to participate. We would love for you to come to this event and allow us to show you God's love in a practical and tangible way! Spending time in His creation and building brotherhood while doing it is our goal for this event. Come join us for a weekend full of adventure that will stay with you for years to come. We pray that you leave a changed man, more alive than when you arrived.
The mornings will begin shortly after sunrise with hot coffee and a hearty breakfast. There will be a time of fellowship during breakfast before heading out to the range for the day's shooting adventures. We will return to camp for lunch each day. The afternoons will be filled with more shooting and instruction in various shooting positions and techniques. There will be opportunities for horseback riding and hiking in these majestic mountains. Sunset will bring a hot supper and more fellowship and teaching hosted by Riding High Ministries as we relax around the campfire, gaze up at the endless stars, and reflect on the day's adventures.
There is no cell service or internet at Big Park Camp. You will truly be in the wilderness while you are at the event. There will be a satellite texting device for emergencies. You are welcome to bring your own satellite phone or texting device as well. Those can often be rented by the day. You can also give your loved ones Non-Typical Outfitter's office phone number (307-654-0000) as an emergency contact. That line is monitored on a daily basis and a message can be relayed to you through our satellite texting device. Please keep in mind that communication in this area is far from reliable and is never quick.
